Happy Hallothanksmas!
The weekend after Thanksgiving is always kind of a strange time. You bid farewell to loved ones, you start planning for the next holiday, and if you're me, you get your ass crackin on the speech that should have been done a week ago. Our neighborhood is a holiday goulash right now. There are decorations for 3 different holidays floating around. A few remnants of Halloween, a pilgrim, scarecrow, or inflatable turkey wafting in the breeze, and of course Christmas. Our little corner of the world is infamous in Cedar City as we share a fence with The Christmas House, or as I like to call it Where Christmas Goes to Die, When Christmas Attacks, or What Happens When Christmas Pukes, choose your favorite. The Christmas House has an extra circuit breaker just for Christmas. There are so many lights you can't tell what's going on with it unless you are standing at the fence squinting in. We took the Niephews over Thanksgiving night for the first official lighting and Sophie and Madeline declared it a Christmas Miracle.

Across the street from the Christmas House was a reminder from Thanksgiving. Tuesday night another of our neighbors decided it might be fun to deep fry a turkey and succeeded in setting his garage on fire. No one was hurt, so we're aloud to laugh a little. Tehehe. We did our turkey in a roasting bag this year and it ROCKED! I did the bulk of the Thanksgiving dinner preparations (for the first time, mom coached) so by the time I actually got around to eating it I was pretty much sick to death of it all. It all tasted great but I didn't finish my first helping, which was good because then I had room for Becky's KILLER pumpkin pie. Oh my. gosh. It was sooooo good. I had two pieces, it is now my official pumpkin pie recipe. Makes me all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. Janzen was the winner in the eating department, I think he had 5ths. He then followed in the footsteps of his father from a couple years ago and slid off his chair to the ground where he lay holding his belly for awhile.

Thanksgiving was really fun for the most part we played a little karaoke, watched a little football and of course ate a lot of food, which leads inevitably to lots of dishes. Which is when everything went south. My mom is a martyr and a glutton for punishment and it drives us all crazy. I ended up going to Becky's for a couple hours and bawling my eyes out with the sistahs and then everything was fine. I'll spare you the details. Mom and I played the cold shoulder game most of the day on Friday and today everything is apparently fine. Aw the joys of the holidays. In spite of everything there is no one else I would rather spend my holidays with than my sweet family. I have amazing sisters, amazing niephews, and flawed but fabulous parents. The only thing that would have made it better was if my brother and his wife and puppies could have been there. Oh well.

Oh and, they took my internet away at work. Apparently someone printed porn off and left it on the printer in my boss's office. So they turned of my internet. Punishing the cats because the dogs pissed on the carpet if you ask me but whatever. So I'm catching some blog action here and there and even if I'm not commenting I'm reading.

Girl looks GOOOOOD! And the return of Crazy Holly
K so I went to the new Harry Potter movie tonight. And in a strange group activity turned strange and awkward double date ended up spending the evening with Holly, Rob, and Micah. Micah is cute, but just about as mormon as they come. I thought perhaps he had possibilities, but then the following things happened:
1-He informed me that he's "not a book type". OK... not one of the seven deadly sins in the Katy commandments but uhm, Huh....
2-He called a sports hotline (dialing mid my sentance) to see what the score was of "his college" football game.
3-Was put out that I didn't know the score of the Utah BYU game and that I hadn't gone to the football game that day. Alright alright I'll give him the annoyed at my lack of sports enthusiasm since I was so annoyed that he had NEVER READ A BOOK! NEVER!!
4-The whole evening was spent with him trying to figure out which girl to hit on. A little bit of Holly, a little bit of Katy. Oh, and the girl sitting on the other side of him in the theatre.
5-Upon leaving the theatre, after the movie, he pulled out his cell phone again and called the sports hotline to see who won the football game. It was "his college" and he proceeded to cheer, unabashedly walking down the hall.
6-He then informed me that he "wasn't going to do Santa Clause" with his kids.
7-He made it a point of informing Holly and I that he "didn't cuss" never had never will, not even the "D" and "H" words. To which I replied, "Well hell sugar, I think that's damn fine of you."

But the day was not a total loss I cleaned my room today, I even went through my closet, where I found a pair of jeans that I hadn't worn in awhile because they were to skinny, and guess what. THEY FIT!! YAY! I also got all dolled up, in my cute closet find jeans, my new navy blue sweater and I actually DID my hair, like with a clip and everything. Uh-huh, I. Look. HOT!

Now with a quick Crazy Holly story. Holly has been "seeing" this guy named Mike for about 3 months. 3 months of an emotional roller coaster I might add. Anyhoo, she finally decided that she couldn't "be" with him anymore. Now they were never actually together. They were friends who spent a great deal of time together. Which to Holly, equals they're getting married. Anyway, she "broke up" with him today because he spent time with another girl last night. The nerve. And spent most of the day sitting on my bed crying her eyes out. Then, she actually broke into song. A stirring rendition of "Unbreak My Heart". She had been doing so well too. With her lack of insanity and such.

Today's thing I learned: You actually get a choice about whether or not you "Do Santa Clause"????

You guys have GOT to try these!
These are quite possibly the best oatmeal raisin cookies EVER!!

In fact, if you'll excuse me, I need to go eat some more of them right now.

PS. Later I'll tell you guys about the dream I had last night and why I now hate Ed McMahon. SCARY!

It's all in your head
So I don't know if ya'll have noticed but I've been in a fairly fabulous mood lately. I had a little change in perspective a couple weeks ago and since then, life is going, dare I say, swimmingly. I have decided that I have a lot more contorl over my attitude than I thought I did and that if I just tell people I'm having a good day and mean it then the rest will work itself out.

Take Monday for instance. There I was, walking from my comm class to my computer class thinking what a beautiful autumn day it was and feeling generally thrilled with myself and my decision to go back to school (one month from today my finals will be over!!) when WHAMMO!!! The assholio himself appeared in the crowd. I told myself, don't look Katy, just walk on by, you don't owe him the gift of your gaze. Yeah well I looked, I glanced really, barely anything, but there he was, looking back at me. All sad and I wonder if she's gonna kick me like. He smiled a little and gave me that stupid half nod "what's up" thing that boys do when they aren't going to actually talk to you. And I glared and headed to class. Then the stewing ensued. "Not even a hello? He can't even bring himself to actually SAY Hi Katy. What a ginormous loser." This little encounter would have ruined my day a few weeks ago. I would have been reduced to an angry tearful pile of pity party. But not today, no no! I recovered nicely and adjusted quickly and resolved that something must be done about this before it drives me crazier. So I sat down and I wrote him a letter. I was able to get out all that I wanted to say and put my own thoughts in order. I may never actually give him said letter, but the fact that it's out there now, that I've finally established why I'm really so angry feels great! This being in charge of myself and my emotions thing is really great.

Todays thing I learned: Well, apparently I'm learning something because I got well above average on my bio test! WOO HOO Go Katy!!!

To caffeinate or not to caffeinate.
Is that even a question?

I am TIRED. It's a good tired though, like a "Hey, I must have actually done something with myself this weekend kinda tired. Here's a quick (and I fear boring) recap!

Friday I though I had made plans to hang out with my favorite high school buddy Mario. Apparently I had made plans to hang out with him Saturday instead and I ended up spending most of the evening in front of the TV. Though I did get to talk to Mario for like 30 minutes before he had to check out for his other plans. I watched cartoons til like 3:00 in the morning and then went to bed. Oh and I had a nice long bath. I love it when my parents are gone and I have the whole house to myself. I can watch what I want on TV, I can make a huge mess in the kitchen and not have to clean it up right away. I can have nice long SILENT hot baths. It's going to be a huge adjustment when they start hanging around on weekends again.

Saturday I woke up lateish and then uhm, watched more cartoons (lazy I know). Then I made the dough for my cute little suckers and stuck it in the fridge to chill while I got ready. I seem to remember doing laundry even. Wow. I'm an allstar! Made cookies, was thrilled at the cookies success, blogged about the greatness of the cookies, ate too many of the cookies and then headed out into the wild blue yonder! Went and got bags and ribbon to decorate the cookies with (Patrice, I do have your address, and IF I get my act together you can expect a package in the next few days :) ). Visited Holly (who is increasingly less crazy) at the health food store where she works and bought some Burts bees chapstick and an acne stick thingy that apparently works miracles. Then I headed to Maurices to try and find new jeans. I hate HATE jeans shopping, I hate it. I am tall and pretty skinny and have no butt, finding jeans that fit me and look good is near to impossible, but I have to face the drama again because my favorite pair of jeans is literally disintegrating. Right now I'm wearing a 13-14 from my chubby banker days, I should be wearing a 9-10 from my college student who walks a million miles a day....days. I didn't find any cute jeans though. I guess I'm going to have to take an actual shopping trip somewhere. Then I went and picked up Holly and Mario and met up with Mike and Rob and Rob's adorable little brother Ammon to watch Chicken Little. HILARIOUS!! Even with the scary aliens who I'm not to proud to admit gave me the creeps. We were hungry after the movie so Holly, Mario and I went and got stuff for french toast, special milk for lactose intolerant Holly, and bread, and I made french toast and bacon and we watched The Phantom of the Opera. Mario and I snuggled up on the couch and Holly fell asleep. Then I took Mario home and Holly and I stayed up til like 5 in the morning talking. Oh yeah at Wal-mart we ran into the Evil Hoe Beast who is still friends with Mario and I was torn between staying and waiting for Mario and ditching him to escape her. I just waited the next aisle over.

Sunday I slept and then slept some more. Then I made Love Day cookies with Sophie, Karaoke'd with Boo, and cleaned up the kitchen before Mom and Dad came home. And now, I'm wishing I could go back to bed and recover from my weekend.

Todays thing I learned: Really, it's more like last nights thing I learned. Before you go to bed clear a path from your bed to your door so you don't trip on your way to the bathroom. Finding yourself half asleep and sprawled out on the floor is not a comfortable position to be in at 3 in the morning.

The candy WOMAN can!!!
I am well aware of the fact that I continue to toot my horn about my mad kitchen skills (I almost typed chicken hahaha), but seriously these are the cutest things I've ever seen. They're a really soft cream cheese sugar cookie dyed different colors and then rolled into a long rope and then rolled up to look like old fashioned suckers. I even had everything I needed for them in my pantry this morning when I got the baking urge! Here's the recipe, they're the bomb, and did I mention the FREAKING CUTENESS??? I'm on my way to the craft store to get little celophane bags and ribbon to put them in before I head to the movie with my friends (that's right friendS plural) I'm popular :)!

Katy, The Next Foodnetwork Star!

I really, really REALLY hope that next week CALMS DOWN!! Last week was the freaking speech (I know I haven't posted it or e-mailed it yet but I will...someday....maybe...) This week I played Rachel Ray for my mom's relief society (old lady mormons). About a month ago she said that she was going to teach a mini class on what you can do with frozen dough, for Enrichment (old lady mormons hanging out), and would I help her? Sure I said, I'll help. Then last week she comes home from church and says, "well I guess you're doing it and I'm helping you." Ok.... So on top of the homework and other insanity that is my life right now she wants me to prepare a 45 minute mini cooking class? And I'm going to make 6 different things (really an entire meal and then some Rachel Ray eat your heart out!) in 45 miutes?? Ok.... I can do that. I am SuperKaty! So I made little handouts with the six recipes that I wanted to do, packed up a bunch of my kitchen stuff that I have for my house, (I have a spoonula!! Who knew?) and moved everything over to the churches kitchen for la classe. Got everything set up and looking pretty and went home to try and sleep off the big bad headache that had just started rearing its ugly head. Did I mention spending 3 hours the night before doing prep work? Did I set out the rolls to thaw before heading home? Nope, because I only wanted 6 of them to rise and I already had those out. I didn't want them to get too big and unmanageable and I figured giving them in an hour and a half in a warm kitchen would be sufficient. It worked at home...

So at about 6:15 I'm ready to head back to the church and finish getting things set up. We didn't actually make it out the door til closer to 6:30, I ran to the kitchen and started laying rolls and checked the 6 that were supposed to be thawed and rising. SUPPOSED TO BE THAWED AND RISING!!! They weren't even completely thawed yet and the kitchen was FREEZING. So I turned on the ovens and opened the doors and closed up the kitchen to get the heat circulating. Short story long, I ended up just popping 70 rolls in the microwave for 25 seconds and working with what I had. Despite everything (the kitchen never really warmed up and the rolls still weren't really thawed) I think everything was a success. I ended up having to make more handouts because I had a lot more people come to my class than I thought would and pretty much all the food was gone. I was evenly mildly entertaining. I told the story about the mother suit (the towel that my mom always had over her shoulder when I was growing up and that I have at my waist through a loop in my apron) we talked about me and Becky hanging out at her house watching two fat ladies and our dreams of roaming the English countryside in out motorcycle and side car adding another stick of butter to everything. And I tried desperately not to tell my mom to get the HELL out of my kitchen. She was really very helpful but I need space when I cook and I have an order of doing things. I guess that's where the saying too many cooks in the kitchen comes from. Anyway, I really hope life mellows out a bit and I can get back into my routine. I can't think of anything too huge coming up next week, but I do have another speech due the 28th. Thanksgiving break is soon right?

Todays thing I learned: I am soooo not going to have enough cashola to do school next semester. Calling all credit cards....

And then my head exploded.
Or at least, I wish it would.

I'm back! I didn't get done with my statistics homework (ran out of time) but I did do pretty good on the test and my speech went wonderfully. I was very proud and kind of excited at being in front of people "performing" again. All in all everything went well this week, except for the fact that I feel like a large blurry elephant is sitting on my brain. I've been trying to convince myself that I was NOT getting sick but it caught up with me yesterday, so I got to do 5.5 hours of Statistics homework and finish the blog speech all while swimming through jell-o. Fabulous. The upside of feeling like crap is the killer cough syrup I take. It tastes like orange skittles and I always sleep sooo good when I'm on it. And have good/weird dreams. For instance, last night I had a dream that I was making out with some guy wearing nothing but a towel and a smile in my grandparents basement. I probably would have picked another guy if I was being choosy, but he worked :).

Some of you mentioned an interest in hearing my speech but since I didn't record and wouldn't know what to do with it if I did record it that seems a little impossible. I did however type it up and if you want a copy I'll e-mail it to you. It's long or else I would just post it here. Needless to say, it rocked and I think the class and my teacher enjoyed it. Thanks for inspiring me. Now, any ideas for a persuasive speech?

A brief hiatus.
I have to ground myself from the blogosphere. With the speech that I haven't even written due on Friday, the whole homework mess, and the statistics test tomorrow I just can't allow myself to waste (it's really not wasting but you know what I mean) one of the precious free hours I have on blogging. Friday at noon this weeks insanity will be over and I will be able to regain some sanity and catch up on the blogdom. Til then, happy blogging and have a good week.

What just happened?
A whole lot of stupid!

My statistics test has really turned itself around, on my last test I only missed one. I was pretty gosh darn proud of myself. And I even went up to the board and did a problem, and I did it right and everything. So yeah, things were going fairly well. That is until tonight. There I was, sitting at my desk at work, with an hour to go before class started. I was just finishing up my second to the last assignment and I had one more assignment to do (we hand in like 7 at a time) and I was just buzzing along thinking to myself "Damn, these problems are a lot of work. Lots of meaningless busy work really, it's not like her to assign this much crap." But I shrugged it off thinking maybe she was throwing us a handful of easy problems to weight the grade a little. I finished my last assignment and went on to the next one when, oddly they were the exact same set of problems as before. So I investigated a bit. Turns out I had done the last four assignments completely wrong. Not the math no, the actual problems. I did 7.5's set of problems but for 7.4. So rather than do 7-11 on 7.4 I had done 11-17, and on 7.5, I had done 1-13 instead of 11-17.

So now, on top of my blog speech, and the test I have Thursday, I have to redo 70% of my homework. Well done Katy dear.

Today's thing I learned: Always, Always, ALWAYS double check...ALWAYS
